Measure the complete product
Measure length, width and height with caps, closures, bows or protruding parts included. For a gift set, arrange every item in the intended layout and measure the full arrangement.
Separate internal and external dimensions
Internal dimensions describe the usable space. External dimensions include the board and construction. Tell your supplier which measurement you are sharing and use one unit consistently, preferably millimetres.
Plan the insert and clearance
Allow for the insert, wrapping, cushioning and easy removal. There is no universal clearance that works for every item. Confirm tolerances with your supplier and test the actual product in a sample.
Check the complete delivery system
If the order will travel by courier, size the outer shipping carton around the finished gift box and its cushioning. A beautiful presentation box does not automatically provide shipping protection.
