Begin with the complete packed product
Measure the item as it will be packed, including lids, wrappers and accessories. For an assortment, list the number of items and the dimensions of each one. Explain whether items should sit together or in separate compartments, and whether a card or additional packing must fit inside.
Specify the measurement units and distinguish product dimensions from the internal box dimensions you need. Do not assume that a box with the right exterior size has the same usable interior space. Ask how the proposed insert or closure affects the fit and whether a sample or fit check can be arranged.
Discuss the changes that matter to your brand
Start with the design decisions that make a practical difference. Ask about size, artwork, insert layout and finish options for the shortlisted box. Each request should be checked against the construction, quantity and production requirements; a reference image does not establish that every feature can be reproduced.
Prepare your logo and any text you want printed. Share brand colours, placement preferences and reference artwork, then ask what file format and artwork specifications are required. Review the proposed layout before approval, including spelling, logo readability and the relationship between printed areas and folds or closures.

Make quotes easier to compare
Give the same specification to every supplier you approach. Include quantity per design, any variations, the requested branding, insert requirements and delivery location. Ask the quote to identify supplied components, artwork or setup charges where applicable, delivery charges and the approval steps.
Discuss minimum order requirements and sample availability rather than assuming a standard threshold. Confirm suitability for the intended contents, especially if edible products are involved. A photographed insert or window does not establish food-contact suitability, strength or a particular material specification.
Set a realistic order timeline
Share the date the boxes must arrive, not just the date you hope production will start. Ask which steps depend on artwork approval and how production and delivery will be scheduled. Eligible custom production turnaround can be as short as 24 hours, subject to availability, artwork approval and order requirements; delivery is confirmed separately.
